Lidl launches consultation on plans for new job-creating Huddersfield store

A UK supermarket has launched a consultation on plans to create a new store in Yorkshire that could create 40 jobs.

Lidl GB has launched an online public consultation on revised plans for a new store in Huddersfield, ahead of submitting a planning application to Kirklees Council.

If successful, the proposals will see the former Spotted Cow pub site transformed into Lidl’s newest store, creating up to 40 new jobs for the local area.

Lidl’s previous planning application for a new store in Huddersfield has been adapted to include more natural stone and to retain protected trees across the site.

Robert Beaumont, Lidl’s regional property director,, commented: “The response we’ve had from the local community has been extremely encouraging and I would like to thank everyone who has supported us so far.

“We strongly believe that local residents will benefit from the added shopping choice and competition that a Lidl store on New Hey Road will offer.

“The site has been derelict for some years now and a new supermarket will not only regenerate this site and create jobs for the local area, it will also complement existing shops in Salendine Nook Local Centre.

“We’re grateful for the continued support and remain committed to working with the council so that we can bring this new store to the community.

“We hope that as many people as possible are able to join us for this ‘virtual’ public consultation. We look forward to sharing and discussing our plans with everyone.”
