Yorkshire hydraulics firm expands reach with US partnership

A family business in Wakefield is expanding its global reach by partnering with a US hydraulics firm and investing £50k in a new store.

BSP Hydraulics, based in Normanton, will work with Parker Hannifin to open the American firm’s first truck hydraulics shop in the UK, which has enabled the Yorkshire company to expand its business premises and hire new staff.

The ‘one stop truck shop’ will enable BSP and Parker Hannifin to provide high quality truck parts, repairs and diagnostic services to help fleet managers and maintenance engineers keep trucks, agricultural vehicles and buses and coaches on the road. A new store manager has also been recruited.

The shop will be officially opened on Thursday 10 September, by the Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr Charles Keith.

BSP, which was established in 1992 and employs 14 people, moved to new premises at Tuscany Court, Express Way in Normanton in December 2019. Parker Hannifin is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio and employs more than 50,000 people worldwide.

Doug Conyers, managing directors of BSP, said: “It’s great to partner with a company which is a world leader in hydraulics, and for Parker to put their trust in us is testament to the quality and experience we have in our team at BSP.

“Parker have some of the best truck and mobile hydraulics products in the world and we are looking forward to showcasing them in the heart of the UK, backed by our first class sales and service engineers.

Martyn Allen, Parker’s distribution manager for the UK and Ireland, said: “This is Parker’s first certified truck store in the UK and highlights the strength in our distribution network. BSP’s specialist truck and mobile-related knowledge is reflected in its growing business success and a strong customer base.

“We’ve worked extremely well with the team for many years and look forward to continued partnership success.”
