Entec Si goes the extra mile for local community

Birmingham-based business change consultancy, Entec Si, has put giving back at the top of its to-do list this month, with employees taking part in both a charity shop drop-off and a marathon.

Lockdown has offered the perfect opportunity for people to have a clear out of things they no longer need, and Entec Si has made the most of it. In an effort to battle the issues of waste and fast fashion, the team have chosen items they know will be of use to the community to donate.

From clothes to toys and books, the aim was not to flood charity shops with clutter, but to supply them with items that people truly need. Donations were made to both Age UK and KIT, a charity which provides baby items free of charge to families in need of extra support.

One bold employee, project coordinator, Shaun Richards, is taking things one step (and the rest) further by running a marathon on 26 September in aid of Primrose Hospice. Originally the run was due to take place in Brighton, but COVID-19 has led to Shaun having to create his own route along Birmingham’s canal paths.

Primrose Hospice cares for those with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Having looked after his father, the Bromsgrove-based hospice holds a special place in Shaun’s heart.

Shaun said: “So far I’ve raised £500, which will hopefully give the hospice a well-deserved boost and keep this vital service going. I’ve never run a marathon before, and expect it be a challenge, but I’m looking forward to pushing myself.”

Eman Al-Hillawi, principal consultant and co-founder of Entec Si, said: “Supporting the local community has always been important to us. A people-focused approach is central to our organisation and we are proud to reflect that in both our transformation projects and our activities outside of work.

“In the current environment, it’s vital to do what we can to help those who work hard to make a difference. If our donations provide someone with clothes for a job interview or toys to entertain their children, then we couldn’t be happier.

“We are all also incredibly proud of Shaun for taking on his first marathon. He has our full support and we’ll all be willing him on next Saturday.”
