New canalside development to bring 16 homes to Rugby
A new residential development in Rugby will create a modern and sustainable canalside community as well as a legacy for the local company behind the scheme.
Planning permission has been granted for 16 townhouses to be built on scrubland overlooking the canal off Brownsover Road, Brownsover.
It is the final piece in the jigsaw for The Wigley Group, the property, construction and development company based at Stockton, Southam, as it is the last section of land it owned in the area to be developed.
And for managing director James Davies, who was raised on the farm once located there, it fulfils a wish of his late father Gordon Davies whose footsteps he followed into the company.
James said: “We are really looking forward to bringing this project to life with our development and construction arms, particularly as this area holds a great deal of history for The Wigley Group.
“John Wigley, who founded the company, and my father Gordon Davies, who worked alongside him, were instrumental in this area being developed which included the Holiday Inn and Premier Inn.
“This development is on the last piece of land owned by the company and therefore represents the final piece in the jigsaw which my father had wanted to complete before he died in 2008.
“We are hoping to be able to name the access road to the new homes Gordon Davies Way in memory of him.”
Planning permission was originally secured for 21 homes to be built on the land in 2000 but the scheme was never progressed.
The company has worked with development consultant Mike Vining, and with Threesixty Architecture on the new design and plans.
The new scheme will create 16 homes which have been designed for modern and sustainable living, and to reflect the character of the area.
Located on a hill, the semi-detached properties will appear as two-storey from the street but will open up to three storeys at the rear to take full advantage of the views of the canal.
