Morgan Sindall Construction welcomes new Cambridge director

Morgan Sindall Construction has appointed Jamie Shearman to head up its Cambridge office, overseeing the Cambridgeshire region, with significant focus on the conurbations around Cambridge, Alconbury, and Peterborough.

With a background as a quantity surveyor, Jamie has over 20 years’ experience in the industry, and has worked extensively in bid and pre-construction, formerly holding the role of pre-construction director on a national framework.

Jamie takes on the area director role from Bob Ensch, who will remain with the business in a business development role. ¬¬¬ Jamie Shearman said: “I’m delighted to be joining Morgan Sindall Construction – it is a unique business with a brilliant culture and I’m looking forward to building on these great foundations as we nurture our great team in Cambridge. Morgan Sindall Construction is on-site at a number of key developments across the region, including the redevelopment of the world-famous Cambridge Union Society building, where the company is combining heritage restoration techniques with modern offsite construction, as it delivers the refurbishment of the Grade II listed building, alongside new student accommodation for Trinity College.

Morgan Sindall Construction is also delivering a new primary school for St Neots which is set to open in September 2020. The £14.2 million Wintringham Primary School forms part of the Wintringham development, which alongside Loves Farm, is part of the eastern expansion of St Neots. The school will be managed by Diamond Learning Partnership Trust which also runs the nearby Round House Primary Academy, on Loves Farm, and will provide places for just over 700 pupils aged 3-11.

The school will sit at the heart of the first phase of Urban&Civic’s 162 hectare development which will be a sustainable new development with 2,800 homes and a range of community and sports facilities, health and green space.

Morgan Sindall Construction is also on-site delivering a £14.6 million expansion and refurbishment of Cromwell Community College in the town of Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. The addition of the new educational facilities will mean Cromwell Community College, part of The Active Learning Trust, is set to become the first school delivered for Cambridgeshire County Council to provide all-through education, from ages four to 18, helping meet growing demands for school places in the region.

The project involves the construction of a new pre-school, accommodation suitable and sufficient for 210 primary-aged children, and additional secondary teaching classrooms, as well as new food technology rooms, sports pitches, play areas and landscaping.
