Key themes are considered for My Town Nuneaton funding bid

Nuneaton’s transport infrastructure and arts, culture and heritage are themes that are being considered for an ambitious bid to secure multi-million-pound government funding for the town.

Nuneaton is one of 100 towns across the country that has been selected to bid for funding from the Government’s Towns Fund Initiative - where up to £25 million per town is available - and an initial consultation with Nuneaton residents on how the money could be spent received around 300 submissions.

The Town Deal Board has reviewed the feedback and are looking closely at which areas could be included in the Town Investment Plan, which will be submitted to government by the end of the year.

Transport projects are being explored to improve the flow of traffic around Nuneaton town centre’s ring road, as well as ways in which cycling and walking paths can be developed across the community.

Ways in which Nuneaton can amplify its heritage and rejuvenate its parks are also being considered alongside transport in the Town Investment Plan.

A Town Deal Board - made up of business representatives, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Councillors, Warwickshire County Councillors and representatives from the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Warwickshire CAVA, the health sector and community – is bringing the funding bid together.

Sean Farnell, Chair of the Nuneaton Town Deal Board, said: “The creation of the Town Investment Plan is a significant step forward in our efforts to secure game-changing investment for Nuneaton, which if successful, will benefit many generations to come.

“The Plan will have the Nuneaton Community’s wishes at the heart of it, with proposals from the Town Deal Board on the best way of achieving those wishes.

“The people of Nuneaton are greatly passionate about the town’s heritage and its local community, and through this potential investment we want this feeling to reverberate across the wider region to attract even more people from outside the town, whether it is for leisure or business.

“We are currently finalising the remaining projects that will be earmarked for investment within the Town Investment Plan, and will be announcing these in due course.”
