Yorkshire discount retailer opens new store in Durham city centre
A Yorkshire retailer has opened a new store in Durham city centre despite 21 shops closing in the area in the past six months.
The Yorkshire Trading Company has opened its latest store in the former Marks and Spencer outlet on Silver Street.
The company previously had a smaller store in the city at The Gates, and opened in the high street on Sunday.
Retail expert Graham Soult, who is aiming to boost footfall in the city, commented: “We are delighted that family-owned discount variety store Yorkshire Trading Company will be opening in Durham.
“The store will be taking the ground floor of the former M&S in Silver Street, which until this summer housed M&Co.
“Yorkshire Trading used to have a small but popular store in The Gates, so it is lovely to welcome them back.”
