Sales admin is Persimmon's 'unsung hero'

A sales administrator from Leigh, Greater Manchester, has won the top prize in a national housebuilder’s annual awards.

Lynn Mullarkey, was named Unsung Hero of the Year by Persimmon Homes in their Achiever Awards, as well as scooping the overall Achiever of the Year award.

Lynn, who works at Persimmon’s Urmston head office, was nominated by the North West Sales Director Dave Hodgson, who described her as conscientious, well liked and a valuable member of the team.

He said: “Lynn is well deserved of this award and everyone in the North West, but especially in the sales department, is overjoyed to know that she has been recognised for all the amazing work she does.”

Lynn attended Cowley High School and went on to St Helen’s College before joining the YMCA where she worked with vulnerable people affected by homelessness and addiction. She then took on HR and PA duties for the CEO of YMCA in St Helens.

She joined Persimmon in October 2014 as a Trainee Assistant Administrator, and 18 months later rose to Sales Administrator looking after sales figures, sales negotiators, part exchanges, sales staff, HR requirements and general PA to the Sales Director.

Lynn, 36, was presented with her two trophies by Persimmon’s new CEO Dean Finch, watched by the region’s Managing Director Karl Wiseman and Sales Director Dave Hodgson. As well as the two trophies, she received £2,000 in prize money. Lynn said: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard I had won not one, but two awards – I didn’t expect it and it was a real shock.

“After Dave said he had nominated me, I didn’t think about it again because I never for a minute thought I’d win. To be named Unsung Hero and Overall Achiever is wonderful, I’m absolutely made up and actually feel really proud to be recognised by Persimmon for my work.”

It’s a family affair in the North West office, where Lynn shares an office with mum Val, a Field Sales Manager, and down the hall is her fiancé Rob Holcroft, a technical manager. Lynn and Rob got engaged this summer and sold both their previous homes to move into their first home together with Lynn’s 15-year-old son Liam and Rob’s two children, Jack (14) and Emma (12) – a Persimmon home on the Walmsley Park development in Leigh.

When asked what she will spend her prize money on, Lynn said: “Well it should go into the wedding fund but I like to shop and I’m sure the kids will have their share of it!”

Managing Director Designate Karl Wiseman said: “As a company we are committed to developing the skills of our employees in order to deliver the best quality service to our customers. We are very proud of Lynn and the contribution she makes to the business day in day out, and we are all delighted to see such a worthy winner.”
