The APC celebrates outstanding achievements of depots and individuals

The APC, the UK’s largest independent delivery network, has recognised and rewarded the most successful depots and top performing individuals across its network as part of its annual All Depot Meeting (ADM).

The ADM, hosted virtually this year, celebrated those who have significantly contributed to the company’s success - recognising some of the outstanding achievements over the last year - at a time where logistics has played a critical role in keeping essential items moving and supplying communities during the coronavirus pandemic. APC Exeter was awarded “Depot of the Year” for its outstanding achievements in sales growth, collection and delivery performance.

Seven depots across the UK also won regional depot awards, judged on their delivery performance and ability to demonstrate a proven track record of exceptional service for people and businesses in their local areas. These included; Lines Distribution Services Ltd (Scotland and Ireland); Classic Carriers Limited (North); EDS Stoke Ltd (Midlands); Transexpress International couriers Ltd (East Anglia); Streetwise Couriers Sussex Limited (South East); Mach 1 Couriers Ltd (London) and APC Exeter (South West and National winner).

Jonathan Smith, Chief Executive of The APC, said: “At this year’s ADM we recognise our brilliant depot teams and colleagues who have shown hard work and commitment to continually meeting the increasing and changing logistics needs of the nation during this crisis. Not only have they offered critical logistics support to SMEs across the UK, but in many cases have gone above and beyond in recognising the needs of their customers and their local communities, working hard in partnership with them to ensure those needs are met.”

In addition to celebrating the outstanding depot performance across its network, The APC also gave special recognition to three individual employees at the ADM.

The “Spirit of the Network” award, which recognises ‘the amazing acts of individuals that go above and beyond’, was given to Paul Eyles, MD of PGS Global Logistics.

Paul was awarded the “Spirit of the Network” award for his charitable activities and considerable efforts in supporting his local community over the last year. Most recently Paul, a long term supporter of the Birmingham Food Bank, handed over the keys of a VW Transporter to the Food Bank, helping provide crucial support in collecting donations from across the region. He also provided the Food Bank with his 1966 classic London Bus to pick up those in need of assistance and take them to the Erdington based facility for meals.

Corina Forman, HR Director at The APC, said: “Paul is a fantastic example of The APC spirit. Through this award we wanted to recognise the amazing acts that go on across the network and Paul is someone who has demonstrated truly exceptional support, doing everything possible to help those in need across his local community, and playing his part in helping local businesses and residents through this crisis.”

Sikander Mahmood, part of The APC’s night team, was named “Employee of the Year” for his adaptability - especially through times of changes - his commitment to the business, and notably for his tireless efforts in proactively managing and reducing mis-sorts on the night operation. Sikander has been an employee of APC Overnight for 22 years and in that time has regularly been praised by management and colleagues alike, for his fantastic work ethic and dedication to always doing the very best in whatever role he fulfils.

Corina Forman, HR Director at The APC, said: “Sikander is like the blueprint for the ideal employee. He’s committed, professional and is truly dedicated to contributing to the success of the business. It is evident to anyone that works with Sikander that he takes pride in his work, a quality that often positively influences those who work alongside him.”

Dan Webber, an employee of Nationwide Express Services, was named “Van Driver of the Year” for his commitment to going the extra mile in serving the needs of customers. The hotly contested award - where all of The APC’s depots, over 100 in total, are invited to nominate a van driver from their business - was awarded to Dan in recognition of his outstanding customer service and dedication to helping customers across Cheltenham. Colleagues and customers alike praised him for his professional manner and flexibility to accommodate customer demands, especially during these unprecedented times.

Kathy Cookson at AE Smith Engineering Ltd. - a customer of Nationwide Express Services - said: “Dan represents APC in a very professional manner with great customer service skills. Nothing is too much trouble for him, he does his best to fit into our routine as a business, which is very helpful and also gives us the confidence that our parcels will be picked up in a timely fashion. This confidence in service is very important to us - we will have committed to our customer when their goods will be delivered and any issues with deliveries will firstly reflect on us as a supplier. Dan always has a smile on his face and in these difficult times make us all feel better.”
