Running from home: Barratt Developments Yorkshire West continues to support charity of the year

Barratt Developments Yorkshire West is continuing to support its charity of the year, Candlelighters, with members of the team running to raise money for the children’s cancer charity.

Most recently, Managing Director, Ian Ruthven and his sons Michael and Sam ran 15k from David Wilson Homes’ Hewenden Ridge in Cullingworth to Barratt Developments Saxon Dene in Silsden on Sunday 28th November to raise all important funds and awareness for the charity.

Other employee involvement included Senior Strategic Land Manager, Jennifer Winyard, who ran the same length as the Great North Run in September after the event itself was cancelled amid the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Jennifer’s determination to support the Candlelighters spurred her on to complete the task and raise money for the charity.

So far the total raised stands at £2,700 with more events happening over the next few weeks to increase the donation amount.

Managing Director, Ian Ruthven commented: “We’ve seen how important it is to continue supporting charities this year and we’re determined to do what we can to ensure Candlelighters are able to continue to do the incredible work they do in supporting families across West Yorkshire. I’m also really proud of Jennifer for doing her Great North Run earlier this year and hope to see many more people taking part in activities to raise money for charities from home!”

Amy Harrison, Deputy Fundraising Manager at Candlelighters said: “We’re so grateful to Barratt Developments Yorkshire West for their ongoing support. This year has been a difficult one for charities and we’ve relied on the generosity of the community, so it’s wonderful to see the team doing their own activities to raise money for Candlelighters!”

Candlelighters, based in Leeds, supports children and their families who are affected by childhood cancer in Yorkshire. The charity supports families in a variety of different ways including offering holidays, providing home from home accommodation for families when children are staying on the children’s oncology ward, and providing support and wellbeing services at its very own support centre. Candlelighters also fund crucial research into childhood cancers.
