London nightclub raises £40k to reopen as live music bar

A London nightclub has announced that its crowdfund to reopen its doors as a live music venue has reached £40k.

The Crobar, in Soho, closed its doors in 2020 due to the impact of the pandemic, but saw punters worldwide raise money to pay its former bar staff.

The club has now launched a £95k crowdfunding campaign as it plans to become a live music venue and bar.

The crowdfund has so far reached £40k, with owners aiming to open back up after pandemic restrictions are lifted.

Richard Thomas, proprietor of the Crobar, commented: “I’ve been here for 20 years and am so overwhelmed by the support.

“I have to admit, I did a little dance when we hit £40k, as it gave me hope and more determination to save Soho and reopen the Crobar.

“I know we meant a lot to our customers, but I didn’t realise just how much!”

A documentary about Soho and the Crobar made by filmmakers Lucy Brown and Andrew Wildley will premiere on Wednesday 27 January on YouTube.
