Newcastle based C.I.C releases lockdown inspired book

A Newcastle based non profit has launched a new book created by its own community during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lockdown Made Me Do It is a collaborative book project sharing the experiences, hopes and fears of the Mindful Therapies community.

Director Rachel Jones-Wild said “The book was inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic. We set up a Facebook group called ‘Mindful Therapies - Mindful Communities’ to help people to support one another and share their experiences of lockdown. We also delivered a range of live mindfulness classes. Every week I would post a question to the group and create a poem – or a series of poems inspired by the responses. In a short amount of time, we had enough to fill a book! So, I thought ’why not?!” The project just kept growing so we have also produced an accompanying CD with guided meditations and poems read by the contributors!”.

The book was published thanks to a public crowdfunded campaign and features a collection of poetry, stories and lessons learned during the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020.

Director Mark Sidney said “Throughout lockdown we have supported people remotely, mostly online through Facebook and Zoom. With many people experiencing increased stress and anxiety during lockdown, regular mindfulness practice can help relax and focus to mind. For those feeling isolated or working from home our free Facebook group and live mindfulness meditations have been a valuable outlet for our community.”

All profits from the book and CD will go back into the Mindful Therapies community, helping us to continue to provide support in these strange and difficult times.

Mindful Therapies is a not for profit C.I.C based in Newcastle. Working with both individuals and businesses we provide courses, workshops, drop-in meditation classes, workplace mindfulness training, affordable counselling and coaching.
