Hampshire community charity is able to continue thanks to £1,000 cash donation

A Hampshire charity, which offers a lifeline for the community, has been able to continue its vital work thanks to a donation from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes.

The Tantum Trust, based in Bordon, received £1,000 from the five-star housebuilders, at a time when Covid-19 had really hit the charity very hard.

Vital funds are normally raised through four of the charity’s shops in Bordon, Liphook, Haslemere and Grayshott. However, due to the pandemic, they’ve faced long closures and funding had almost ground to a halt.

Barratt and David Wilson heard about the charity, which provides financial support to individuals, families and community groups who need it across Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey, and wanted to help. They stepped in to offer support via their Community Fund Scheme, which donates £1,000 to worthy causes in the region each month.

Sue Nicholson, Charity Manager of The Tatum Trust, has said that the donation has come at a perfect time. She said: “We rely heavily on the public donating items and spending in our shops, but the Covid crisis has made it impossible for us to open consistently, leaving us unable to raise vital funds.”

“With Barratt Homes’ help we can continue to offer support to members of our communities that really need it, including those who have struggled because of the pandemic itself.”

Formerly known as The Bordon Liphook Haslemere (BLH) Charity, The Tatum Trust was recently renamed in recognition of its founder, Carl Tantum, who established the Charity back in 1992.

Starting in a waiting room of a local charity with no paid staff, the Charity raised £12,000 in its first three years. Since then, it has granted £1.25 million to those in need.

Tammy Bishop, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Southampton division, is delighted that the housebuilders’ Community Fund can support an organisation that plays such an instrumental role in the local community.

She said: “In such a challenging year for all of us, our local communities have become all the more important. It is wonderful that all the funds raised by The Tatum Trust are fed back into the local area, and I am so grateful that we can give them this well-deserved boost.”

The Community Fund is a dedicated financial resource that helps to support local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.
