Development speeds up at Bruntwood SciTech’s state-of-the-art shower and cycle hub at Alderley Park

A brand-new cycle and shower hub for Bruntwood SciTech’s Alderley Park has reached the technical design stage, with the project starting on site later in 2021.

Architects Hamer Way have led the design of the project on behalf of Bruntwood SciTech which is set to enhance on site amenity and encourage active travel at Alderley Park. This milestone comes after a year of collaborative design work, with the team working remotely throughout lockdown to ensure that the project remained on track. The proposal will breathe new life into an unused sub-basement, bringing natural elements from the park’s unique rural setting inside.

The scheme will feature secure parking for 125 bicycles and a bike pump and repair station. The changing facilities will have 17 individual high-end shower rooms, a bespoke vanity area, changing rooms, a dedicated ironing station and over 180 ventilated storage lockers.

Sophie Way of Hamer Way comments: “We are delighted to reveal these exciting plans for Alderley Park. Facilities that promote healthy commuting are more important than ever and this scheme will support a range of other activities and uses when businesses fully return on-site.

“Alderley Park is home to over 200 businesses and 2000 people. Individuals who take advantage of the 400 acres of parkland using the footpaths and trails for a walk, run or cycle during their workday, as well as individuals attending events after work in the evening, will now have a dedicated place where they can freshen up and change. The spaces have been designed with a timeless monochrome palette, softened with hints of the parkland, using natural bark, moss and foliage textures to bring them to life.”

Pete Crowther, Property Director, Bruntwood SciTech, comments: “We’re really excited to see our new state-of-the-art shower, changing and cycle hub concept come to life. Creating environmentally conscious spaces that support the wellbeing of our customers and encourage active travel has never been more important than now. The cycle and shower hub is a fantastic addition to the existing amenities at Alderley Park, which include a gym and pub, and will be a great hit with our thriving running community. “

A significant part of the scheme is bringing the rural setting inside and introducing natural elements, satisfying people’s physical and emotional need for nature.
