Work Starts on A New Spa at Breedon Priory Health Club

Work has commenced on the scheme to create a new luxury spa at Breedon Priory Health Club in Melbourne.

Derby-based project managers and construction cost consultant Armsons and YMD Boon Architects are heading up a multi-disciplinary team which comprises of fellow Derby business structural engineers Jackson Purdue Lever, Birmingham-based mechanical and electrical engineers HBA and Ashby-based landscape architects Lush Garden Design who have created the design for the external areas.

Planning permission was approved in March 2018 for this exciting project, which will see the demolition of the old golf club house and tied dwelling to make way for the new boutique spa facility.

The high-end spa will be located on the existing footprint of the golf club building, which is located on the edge of the village of Wilson - between Melbourne and Breedon on the Hill.

A whole host of exclusive facilities will be on offer, including treatment rooms, relaxation areas, pools, saunas, and steam rooms, along with a restaurant and a shop.

This will be followed at a later date by the replacement of another tied dwelling and the construction of six holiday lodges, which will be constructed from wood and located on the fairway to the former 18th green.

Work is currently underway and is set to be completed by Summer 2021.

Breedon Priory Health Club was purchased in 2013 by Sigourney Gates and her family and since then has established itself as a hugely successful health and fitness facility, with more than 1,000 members.

The Club has undergone a number of improvements over the past couple of years and now offers state-of-the-art fitness facilities, along with a 14-metre swimming pool and outdoor exercise rig.

Commenting on the scheme Sigourney Gates said:

Armsons has a proven track record in the sports and leisure sector and has completed many high-profile schemes across the region.

These include ground development works for Derbyshire County Cricket Club consisting of the alteration and extension to the Lund Pavilion and the refurbishment of the Gateway Centre; the construction of a new media centre and enhancement of sports facilities at Repton School, which includes a new indoor hockey facility, squash courts and changing rooms; new gymnasium and conditioning facility and refurbishment and extension to the pavilion changing and hospitality facilities.

Most recently Armsons worked with Belper Meadows Community Sports Club on the construction of a new multi-use clubhouse, which included four changing rooms with showers, toilets, and a clubroom.
