64 Trust gifts city building to help create food hub and community centre

Liverpool charity the 64 Trust will play its part in creating a much-needed food hub and community centre in the city.

56 Christian Street – a building known as the former Pontack Pub located within the St Joseph’s community in Everton – has been let free of charge to the L6 Community Association, which will help transform it into a thriving community asset.

The L6 Community Association supports struggling families through its food bank, a mother and baby shop as well as a uniform shop.

The 64 Trust and the L6 Community will work together to establish the new facility in Christian Street, with plans for older members of the St Joseph’s community to use the building for social interaction. It will also run children’s classes twice a week.

Shirley Marshall, Operations and Finance Manager for the L6 Community Association, said:

“We are delighted to be working with the 64 Trust which is kindly allowing use of the Christian Street building for a new food hub to help serve the wider north Liverpool community. COVID-19 has meant that the elderly population has been isolated and, as lockdown eases and the vaccine is rolled out, we want to help change that predicament. We believe the new facility will be a fantastic asset and something which people can be proud of.”

64 Trust Administrator Pauline Connolly added:

“The L6 Community Association have strong ties across the city but particularly in Everton as day in, day out they work hard to support our most vulnerable. We hope the food hub and community centre will become a treasured asset in the local area.”
