Plans unveiled for Middlesbrough 'super-club' following "seriously turbulent times" for nightlife industry

A Teesside events company has announced the launch of a new ‘super-club’ which is set to create more than 40 jobs.

Wynyard Events has revealed plans for STEREO, a new ‘super-club’ venue at the former ATIK site in Middlesbrough.

The club will create more than 40 jobs on its launch, and will collaborate with club brands from across the North East, including La La Land, Yoyo and Sinners Club.

The company said that this will be a “welcome shot in the arm” for the region’s nightlife industry, which saw venues shut for most of last year due to the pandemic.

Nightclubs are tentatively expecting to reopen in late June, but no official date has yet been provided by the government.

Stephen Spensley, co-founder of STEREO, commented: “With lockdown finally coming to an end, we can’t wait to put some joy back onto people’s faces.

“Our mission with STEREO is to rebuild that social aspect of escapism through clubbing and the tangible sensation of being in a room filled with happy people. We also want to show our fellow venue owners and promoters that we can all overcome.

“We know it’s hard, but keep putting those hours in and the good times will be back.”

Kane Ayton, also a co-founder, said: “STEREO is for switched-on fun seekers and serious music lovers. We are attitude-free, fully inclusive and truly independent.

“After over 20 years of practice, this club and the events inside will be our finest work.

“We’re committed to the regeneration of our town and we’re so proud that we’ve managed to pull this off in what can only be described as seriously turbulent times for the industry.

“It’s entirely purpose built for the customer experience. Regardless of the person or the genre, they will instantly feel at home.

“With the help of the best designers and installers, we have created what we think is the best mini super-club in the area.

“As the event programming will span the full musical and cultural spectrum, the focus has been on getting the very best in bespoke sound and light.

“You will need to experience it first hand to understand, but we know it’s going to blow people’s minds and have a long-lasting legacy on Teesside. That’s how confident and proud we are of it.”
