Work begins on saving historic South Yorkshire pub
WORK has begun on the first phase of the project that will save the historic Fountain Inn in the South Yorkshire village of Ingbirchworth.
Award-winning Yorkshire property developer Conroy Brook, in association with Barnsley’s Brook Leisure Group, will restore the currently derelict pub and restaurant to its place at the heart of the village as part of a scheme that will also see the development of nine family homes.
And contractors are now on site for the demolition of the extension to the pub, leaving only the original building, which will be completely refurbished.
“The Fountain is central to the whole project as we know how much the pub meant to the village and how disappointed everybody was that it had been empty for so many years,” said Conroy Brook CEO Richard Conroy.
“We are delighted to be on site with a scheme that will be entirely sympathetic with the surrounding neighbourhood and which we are confident will prove extremely popular.”
Jason Brook, director of both Conroy Brook and Brook Leisure Group, added: “We have a long history of providing quality hospitality venues around Barnsley and beyond - projects as varied as Brooklands Hotel and The Pavilion at Gateway Plaza in Barnsley.
“We look forward to bringing a revitalised pub back to life with the support of the local community.”
Conroy Brook already has a successful development in Ingbirchworth, the award-winning Summerford development of 13 detached homes.
And in the nearby village of Hoylandswaine, the company’s Swaine Meadow development of ten four and five bedroom detached homes has proved another success for the company.
