Engineering firm invests in smart injector repair technology

An engineering firm specialising in common rail diesel fuel systems has invested £120,000 in new technology to repair smart injectors. Extract Engineering, in Carlisle, has added state of the art Hartridge equipment to its current diesel injector testing and repair services and pump testing for modern engines. The major investment means the Kingstown Industrial Estate-based company becomes one of only 12 authorised Delphi Commercial Test and Repair Centres in the UK. As a result of adding the sophisticated equipment, Extract Engineering can now test and repair all Euro 5, EUI and EUP smart injectors. These are used in a number of commercial vehicles, including DAF, Volvo and Mercedes. The company can also test Euro 6 injectors. Managing Director, Steve Jefferson, said the investment is part of Extract Engineering’s commitment to servicing the latest commercial vehicles. “Our investment in state of the art Hartridge AVM2 equipment means we are the only company between north of Preston to northern Scotland that can test and repair engines using Euro 5, EUI and EUP smart injectors,” Steve explained. “We have a reputation for our quality work and services for all modern common rail engines.” Steve, who has over 30 years of engineering experience, set up Extract Engineering to test injectors in 2006 after spotting a niche in the market. Since then, the company has continually invested to keep up to date with changes in engine design and technology. Steve added: “Modern diesel fuel systems are complex and operate at extremely high pressures, often up to 39,000 PSI. With sophisticated electronic sensors and electronically controlled systems, you can only use the latest equipment to test them.” Repairing rather than replacing injectors can save commercial operators thousands of pounds per vehicle.
