Mental Health Services Provider Partners with Derbyshire Health Organisations to Increase Awareness of Diabetes
Mental health experts, Insight IAPT, have joined together with health organisations in Derbyshire to host an event to improve awareness and provide support to those recently diagnosed with diabetes in the area.
Recent figures show that someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes in the UK, with more than 66,000 people in Derbyshire being diagnosed with the disease, and around 90% of those being type 2.
Insight IAPT, alongside; Vita Health, Diabetes UK, DESMOND, and Derby Community Health Services, will look to help residents who are a risk of developing diabetes, who have recently been diagnosed, or want to reduce their risk of developing the disease.
Attendees will be given advice on the risks associated with diabetes, how to use the 4 T’s method as a predictor for when speaking to a GP, raise awareness of the psychological impact of a diagnosis, and how to seek help from local talking therapy services.
Marie Crowley, Derbyshire Service Manager at Insight IAPT said: “The last year or so has been incredibly difficult for all of us, especially during lockdown where we might have been prone to indulging ourselves, eating and drinking more than we should which can leave us prone to developing diabetes.”
“We’re delighted to be working with the other health organisations in Derbyshire to put on this event and help residents in the area to better understand diabetes and the services available to help them put the measures in place to live a healthier and happier life.”
