Retailer receives award from charity

A North East based retailer has received an award for its ongoing support of a local homelessness charity.

Flooring Superstore was recently presented with a Shared Value Award from Oasis Community Housing.

This is in recognition of the support the charity has received over the past 12 months from the County Durham-based retailer.

This included flooring provided for the charity’s Christmas appeal in December and more recently a donation of 28 rolls of carpet, valued at £10,000, which are going to be used to furnish the charity’s supported accommodation projects and one bedroomed flats which provide a safe haven for people facing homelessness in the region.

Hazel Ditchburn, Oasis Community Housing’s Corporate Relationships Manager, recently visited the Flooring Superstore outlet in Blaydon, Newcastle, to present the retailer with the award.

She said: “Through the pandemic, we have continued delivering critical services to people facing homelessness or in housing crisis, but we could not have done this without the generous support of our valued corporate partners.

“We established our Shared Value Awards to recognise those businesses that go above and beyond in support of our charity, and Flooring Superstore certainly deserve its award.

“The donation of flooring for our projects is an incredibly generous gesture and means we can now redirect the funds we would have needed to spend on carpets to other important areas of our work.

“We want people who live in our properties to take pride in them and knowing they have been furnished well is what helps make them a ‘home’ from the outset.”

Jessica Fox, from Flooring Superstore, said: “As a business with its headquarters in the North-East, we’re always happy to support local charities or organisations which are doing amazing work in our communities, and Oasis Community Housing is a perfect example of this.

“We are very proud to have received this award and to be given the opportunity to have a positive impact on 45 lives. Creating a comfortable living space for those who need it most, far exceeds the value of the donation.”
