Hampshire neurological charity receives vital donation from housebuilders

A Hampshire charity supporting individuals affected by neurological conditions, has received vital financial support from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes.

The Rainbow Centre in Fareham supports children and adults, and their carers, affected by Cerebral palsy, stroke, Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and head injuries.

The charity helps its members through a system of Conductive Education learning, and by providing information and signposting.

Now, the incredible organisation has received financial backing via the leading UK housebuilders’ Community Fund Scheme, which donates £1,000 to worthy causes in the region each month.

Emma Dean from the Rainbow Centre is over the moon that the charity, which has been a lifeline for families throughout the pandemic, has received this vital support from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

She said: “Many physiotherapy and hospital appointments have been cancelled during the Covid crisis, so for our families to know we were there to support them, via Zoom, every week, gave them the peace of mind they needed at a very scary time.

“People with a disability are often assessed for what they can’t do, as opposed to their potential. At the Rainbow Centre, we want to highlight that everyone has the capability to learn and develop, irrespective of their starting point.” The Conductive Education system of learning and rehabilitation the charity provides, is developed specifically to support people with neurological conditions to overcome the challenges they face in all aspects of their lives.

“Through our interventions, these individuals can learn new ways to become active and fulfilled, proud of their own achievements and ready for life’s challenges,” added Emma.

It is this remarkable support that the Rainbow Centre is providing for Hampshire residents which is the reason Barratt and David Wilson Homes made the decision to step in and offer their help.

Tammy Bishop, Sales Director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, Southampton Division, said: “After we heard about the amazing support this organisation was providing, we had to help.

“The work that the Rainbow Centre is doing to improve the independence, quality of life and opportunities for those suffering with neurological conditions, is fantastic.”

The charity supports beneficiaries from across a wide region, encompassing Hampshire, Dorset, Sussex, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, and London, and currently has 47 children and 40 adults who rely on it for support.

The Rainbow Centre was created by a small group of parents looking to provide the best help and support they could for their children with Cerebral palsy – the most common cause of physical disability in children and young people in the developed world.

The Barratt and David Wilson Homes Community Fund is a dedicated financial resource that helps to support local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.
