A.W. Lymn Celebrate Retirement of Hearse Driver After 18 Years of Service

Ian Witham has retired after 18 years of service as a hearse driver with the region’s largest independent funeral directors, A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service.

Ian began his funeral career at Ilkeston Co-op Funeral Care in 1998, and then joined A.W. Lymn in 2003 as part of the group purchase of the Ilkeston Co-op funeral group taking over six sites – the largest acquisition completed by the Lymn Rose family to date.

A.W. Lymn now operates 27 funeral homes throughout Nottinghamshire and South Derbyshire, with its head office in the centre of Nottingham. The business has cared for the bereaved in the region for more than 100 years and prides itself on its family-run status.

Before entering the funeral industry, Ian previously had a mixed career managing pubs and taxi driving. In his role as a hearse driver at Lymns, Ian was based at Bennerley House in Cotmanhay and covered all the branches across the Midlands.

In his retirement Ian said, aside from doing ‘as little as possible’, he hopes to enjoy some day trips with his wife Fran and is planning to continue his work as a casual driver bearer a few days a week.

Nigel Lymn Rose, Company Chairman of A.W. Lymn, said: “We wish Ian all the best in his retirement. We are very grateful for his service over the years as he has been a crucial member of the A.W. Lymn team, providing a quality service for our clients.

“It’s always a pleasure to have colleagues work for the company for a long time, adding to the heritage and continuity of our family business. They play a vital role in building connections with the families we work with over the years, and it’s always good to be able to rely on a friendly local face that people can recognise.”
