The White Stripes frontman to launch London record store and live music venue

The lead singer of The White Stripes has announced that he is opening the first UK branch of his independent record store next month.

Jack White, who was also the guitarist for the band, has chosen London’s Carnaby to open the first Third Man Records store outside the USA, which will also incorporate a live music venue.

The London store will be the third of the Third Man physical retail stores, joining existing locations in Nashville, Tennessee and Detroit, Michigan.

The store spans 1,164 sq ft and will be opening on September 25, after White agreed to let 1 Marshall Street from Shaftesbury.

Third Man Records London will consist of a two-level retail space, an intimate live music venue named “The Blue Basement,” and will be the European headquarters for Third Man Records.

Samantha Bain-Mollison, retail director at Shaftesbury, said: “We are excited to announce the arrival of independent record label Third Man Records to Marshall Street.

“Carnaby is world famous for its music heritage and is a great fit for their first store outside of the US which will have an exciting mix of vinyl, retail products and experiential events.”
