Organic supermarket to open in £140m London development

An organic supermarket is due to open its doors in a £140m London mixed-use development this autumn.

Planet Organic, which was established in 1995, has taken a 15 year lease on a ground floor unit at Newham’s Yard and is set to open its new store with a café later in the year.

Ben Thomson, the chair of Planet Organic, said: “Newham’s Yard is in a great location for Planet Organic with its busy mixture of community, commuter and tourist shoppers, drawn to the area by the markets, the river, Tower Bridge and countless offices.”

He continued: “The area has a well-deserved reputation for excellent food and Planet Organic’s healthy and nutritious offering will add to that.”

Dane Cummings, head of commercial property at Acorn Property Group, who negotiated the commercial deal with Planet Organic said: “We are delighted that a new Planet Organic store will be opening this autumn, providing sought-after organic food, as our courtyard development comes to life.”

He continued: “There is no specialist supermarket with a similar offering to Planet Organic, the new store is set to be a huge asset for the local area.”

Newham’s Yard, located close to London’s Tower Bridge, is a courtyard development by Galliard Homes and Acorn Property Group, which has seen its first residential and commercial tenants move into their new homes.

Phase 1 of the development has sold out and Phase 2 has sold 65 per cent, while a new show apartment is being launched in autumn to showcase the final collection of homes available.

KALMARs and Union Street Partners are marketing the remaining commercial space at the development. There are seven commercial spaces at Newham’s Yard with just over 50 per cent either let or under offer.
