Local housebuilder spreads paw-sitivity with hamper gifting to mark International Dog Day

A local housebuilder has marked International Dog Day by treating a number of the four legged friends living on its developments in Hessle to a special hamper designed to help them settle into their new home.

Barratt Developments Yorkshire East has given hampers to dogs at its Barratt Homes Fleet Green development and its David Wilson Homes Hesslewood Park site, to recognise the positive impact they have on their home and the community in which they live, following a year which has been particularly challenging for dogs and their owners alike.

The pet-friendly hamper, offered to current residents with a four-legged friend, contained various fun toys, some delicious treats including homemade treats such as puppy popcorn.

Recent data has suggested 26% of UK adults own a dog, according to The People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA)1. This has also increased during various lockdowns through the year, with a total of 3.2 million2 households in the UK acquiring a pet since the start of the pandemic which has made a positive impact on mental wellbeing.

With the increase of pets in families, pet-friendly homes are growing increasingly important.

When it comes to buying a new home, Barratt Developments encourages families with pets to consider extra characteristics that the housebuilder’s developments offer, such as:

Garden space The most important addition to your new home for your four-legged friend is a secure and spacious garden. The bigger, the better. But as long as there is enough room for your dog to have a run around and play, with walking areas nearby, they’ll be a happy pup.

**Proximity to local walking areas ** Cold nights, or summer days. No matter the weather, your dog will get excited at the mention of the L-word. That’s why when considering a new home, the proximity to local walking areas is significant, and having a home in a village surrounded by farmland is a great choice.

Open-plan rooms for more space Whilst we’re on the return to working in the office again, you may need to let your dog roam freely during the day and have the space to and from the garden at night. You can make the most of this by opting for an open-plan kitchen diner and a utility room with French doors to the garden.

Linzi Bentley, Sales Manager at Hesslewood Park, commented: “Not only do we want to make sure that couples, families and individuals are all settling into their homes, but we want their pets to feel at home too. We’re really happy that the families and their dogs have enjoyed their pet-friendly goodies and hampers, and we look forward to welcoming more people and pets to our developments. We strongly urge anybody interested in Hesslewood Park to visit our Sales Office and speak with one of our friendly Sales Advisers.”
