Retailer chooses Southampton for next store opening

One of the UK’s fastest growing retail chains is preparing to open its fourth store in a month (and its 17th in the last four months), with Southampton being the latest location for one of its outlets.

Flooring Superstore is preparing to open a 3,700 square foot outlet on the city’s Hedge End Trade Park on 28th August.

The retailer has invested £175,000 in the opening of the store, which is creating four new jobs for local people.

This is on the back of store openings in Cheltenham, Preston, and Glasgow over the last month.

Southampton store will be the 18th launched by Flooring Superstore in the UK, since non-essential retail was permitted to resume trading in April this year.

Flooring Superstore Regional Manager Ian Robinson said: “We’re delighted to have been able to open a Flooring Superstore in Southampton and are looking forward to introducing people in the city and from further afield to our brand.

“It’s a fantastic location for us on a busy retail park just off the M27 and we are focused on making our own contribution to the local economy in 2021 and beyond.”

This is Flooring Superstore’s second store on the south coast, revisiting the area after opening one of their first stores in Havant back in 2017.

The retailer’s store openings are coming at a rapid pace. So far in 2021, it has launched stores in Huddersfield, Doncaster, Newcastle, Norwich, Lincoln, Hull, Orpington, Basingstoke, Carlisle, Reading, Catford, Kidderminster, Plymouth, Preston, Cheltenham, and Glasgow.

Southampton takes the total number of outlets in the Flooring Superstore portfolio to 39 and means the retailer is well on course to reach its target of 50 stores by the end of 2021.

Shoppers visiting Flooring Superstore in Southampton will have access to a wide range of flooring such as carpets, vinyl, laminate, real wood, luxury vinyl tiles, EvoCore and the UK’s largest selection of artificial grass.

Ian added: “We’re different from other flooring retailers because we have every type of flooring under one roof, so people don’t need to shop around. We are also disrupting a very traditional market with a modern take on how we purchase flooring. Our ultra-modern showrooms feature interactive sample displays and use of virtual reality to help our customer visualise the flooring in their own homes.

“We started life as an e-commerce retailer less than ten years ago and we have maintained online pricing within our physical stores as well. This has enabled us to be very competitive and bring great quality flooring at fantastic prices.”

As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, Flooring Superstore will be reaching out to local charities, voluntary organisations, or other good causes to see if they would benefit from donations of flooring or artificial grass for a particular project.

The company recently donated over £10K worth of carpets to Oasis Community Housing; a charity committed to helping those facing homelessness. They are also committed to supporting the Woodland Warrior Programme; helping veterans and keyworkers throughout the UK coping with post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health issues.

To mark the opening, Flooring Superstore is also running a free, instore ‘Golden Ticket’ promotion. Anyone who comes into the store, regardless of whether they are buying flooring or not, will be invited to take one of 150 tickets. 145 of these tickets will have 15% off flooring, four will give people £250 to spend in-store and one golden ticket will give a lucky person £1,000 to spend on flooring ranges of their choice.
