The Conduit opens to members at Covent Garden

The Mercers’ Company has today announced that The Conduit, a community committed to social, environmental, and economic change, has now opened its highly anticipated exclusive members space at 6 Langley Street, Covent Garden.

Spanning six floors, The Conduit is a focal point in the heart of London for its 3,000 members, including media leaders, policymakers, social entrepreneurs, academics, philanthropists, investors, academics, activists and civil society leaders. The Conduit provides a platform for members to connect in person and share ideas about creating a sustainable and prosperous future. The launch comes at a time when global collaboration is needed on a range of important issues across different sectors and industries.

As part of the phased launch, The Conduit will be opening its own dedicated 2,000 sq ft public-facing restaurant later in October, which will host 80 covers inside and up to 40 covers outside. Available for public and member use, the ground floor restaurant will serve seasonal, sharing style dishes and will have a strong emphasis on sustainability and ethical hospitality. The restaurant will pay tribute to the building’s history as a warehouse when Covent Garden was a fruit and vegetable market utilising fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and displaying a range of sustainable and ethical products on shelves available for purchase.

The Conduit’s rooftop terrace, opening in Spring 2022, will complete the building, which has a dedicated events floor, intimate meeting spaces, a broadcast studio, and a range of food and beverage and private dining options. The Conduit has also forged wider partnerships with the local community businesses, including Stanfords to provide its second-floor bookshop, Pineapple Dance Studios to offer morning dance and yoga classes for members, and the London Film School on a film and documentary screening series.

Paul van Zyl, Chief Creative Officer, The Conduit, commented on the opening: “We are very excited to announce the launch of The Conduit, in our beautiful new Covent Garden home. Our ecosystem has been designed to inspire and motivate our community by giving them access to content, connections, and capital, whilst providing relaxed, collaborative spaces and the very best in sustainable and ethical hospitality. Choosing the right location was key – there is such a strong feeling of community, creativity, and entrepreneurship here on the Mercers’ Estate and within the neighbourhood, and we couldn’t be more excited to call it our new home.

“Based on the impact of Covid, and the growing global challenges we all face, like climate change, The Conduit is needed now more than ever, and we look forward to reconvening and re-energising our community of members in Covent Garden, and opening our public-facing restaurant in October.”

Simon Taylor, Property Director at the Mercers’ Company, added: “The grade II listed building is the ideal space for The Conduit for its unique and high-profile concept. We are thrilled to welcome them to the community, particularly as their core ethical values and emphasis on sustainability reflect those of the Mercers’ Company which makes this an ideal partnership. We look forward to working with The Conduit community in their new Covent Garden home.”

The opening follows the news that Clarendon Fine Art is opening at 117 Long Acre later in September.

The Conduit represented themselves and the Mercers’ Company dealt direct.
