Housebuilder supports local communities with donation to support Beverley Minster’s secret garden

Local housebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, has donated £1,000 to an important organisation in Beverley which aims to create an accessible space for the community to use and invest in.

The chosen cause, local parish church, Beverley Minster, owns an area of land that is being developed into a “Secret Garden” by a group of volunteers, with the aim of providing the area for the use of the church and local communities.

The ongoing work involves the creation of turfed areas, flower beds, a vegetable patch and a woodland area to open up with trails, all in line with the church’s aim of creating a garden which is accessible to all and able to host events for the local community.

The organisation, close to the housebuilder’s recently launched Minster View development on Voase Way, was nominated by Mark Thomson, Contracts Manager at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, following his father’s dedication as a volunteer spending time improving and maintaining the garden for public and community benefit. Mark Thomson, Contracts Manager at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East commented: “The gardens are a hidden gem, my daughters love visiting their grandad working in the secret garden, and it’s a great asset to the community. There are several plans to improve the garden with mains electric supply, better access for wheelchairs and pushchairs , and provision of a rain shelter for the garden’s visitors for the usual British weather. It’s an honour to be able to nominate the organisation for all of the hard work they do, and hopefully this donation will go to good use.”

Lauren Simpson, Administration Manager at Beverley Minster, said: “We are truly thankful to Barratt Developments Yorkshire East for choosing us as a Community Fund recipient. It’s a very difficult time for charities at the moment, and we are incredibly grateful for this donation which will help us continue to support our communities in Beverley and surrounding areas.”

Barratt Developments Yorkshire East’s Community Fund initiative sees the housebuilder support the communities in which it builds by donating £1,000 of funding to an important local charity each month.
