Eco-friendly London startup offers collection service for living Christmas trees after holiday

7 million Christmas trees are discarded each year releasing 100k tons of CO2 . Box & Sprout, a London based startup, are offering to collect their customers’ living Christmas trees after Christmas.

Rob & Charlie, the founders of Box & Sprout, announced that, once Christmas is over, they are offering a collection service for every Christmas tree they sell to their London customers.

Charlie said: “We’ve looked at our plans for Christmas and how we can be more sustainable. We love Christmas and especially having a nice tree in the house. But I remember last year, just after Christmas, walking through the streets of London and seeing all the discarded trees. It was a pretty sad sight.”

Box & Sprout are offering their customers a choice in this new scheme. They will be exclusively selling living trees in pots, so that the customer can choose to keep the tree until next year. Alternatively, Box & Sprout will come and collect every Christmas tree that they sell, with the customer receiving a 20 per cent voucher for next year’s tree.

Rob noted: “We’re not here to tell people what they should and shouldn’t do this Christmas. It’s been a tough few years for everyone, and so we’re fully behind bringing some joy and positivity this Winter season.

“But we also think that customers should be given more choice when it comes to their Christmas trees. And if we can make it a really good offer, it’s a win for the customer, a win for us and a win for the planet.”

Box & Sprout plan on keeping the trees on their site until next year.

Charlie added: “It’s not something we’re really set-up to do, but we’re making space on our site to do it and we’re building the plan for how to care for the trees until next year. We’re using this year as a test year to see if we can make this a really sustainable model we repeat year after year.”
