New manager offers a warm welcome at Maes y Môr, Tremadog
The new manager of a Gwynedd sheltered housing scheme is already planning new activities to help create an even more welcoming atmosphere.
Mared Gordon has been appointed at Grŵp Cynefin’s Maes y Môr development in Tremadog, having previously worked for the housing group’s Gorwel service.
Mared, who grew up just a stone’s throw away joins Leigh Maclean, Maes y Môr’s new caretaker.
As restrictions allow, Mared hopes to usher in social events such as coffee mornings, games and film evenings for the over 55s who live on site, in order to enhance the already welcoming environment and reinforce the sense of community.
Mared said: “The previous manager was here for 20 years, so I have some big shoes to fill.
“Everyone has been so friendly, we have a good spread of tenants: we accept residents from age 55 upwards, and we have some in their 80s that are particularly active. We currently have flats available.
“As appropriate, I’m looking forward to bringing back more and more activities, which is a significant part of why people choose to live here. We already have plenty of wonderful ideas as a team.
“However, the key part of the role for me is ensuring residents are supported properly to live at their own pace, which there is a real emphasis on at Maes y Môr.”
Maes y Môr contains 38 self-contained flats, each with their own front doors, living spaces and kitchens, which enables older people to live independently with the reassurance that support is available if needed.
New caretaker Leigh, a cyclist and runner in her spare time, joins after the retirement of another long-standing employee. And as it happens, she knows her new colleague well.
She said: “I’ve known Mared since she was knee high, so it’s a real pleasure to be working with her now, which is helping to add to that friendly culture.
“The site itself is in a wonderful location; I’m able to cycle in most days from home as it’s lovely and quiet, but close enough to amenities so the tenants can keep busy.”
