Hampshire housebuilder raises more than £200,000 for charities in 2021

A Hampshire housebuilder has spent the year fundraising and more than £200,000 has made its way to charities across the county.

Barratt Homes is committed to helping the communities in which it is building and has raised the staggering total for organisations improving the quality of life for those living in the region.

As well as the housebuilder’s Community Fund scheme, which donates £1,000 to a different charity each month, Barratt has organised a catalogue of fundraising activities in 2021.

The Saints Foundation, a charity transforming lives in and around Southampton, is the leading housebuilder’s charity of the year, and Barratt has been raising funds in its honour.

A glitzy charity dinner and auction at St Mary’s Stadium in October raised a fantastic £110,000. And a donation earlier this year to the football charity’s Saints Ability project, along with money raised by a team of runners taking part in the ABP Southampton 10k, and money from Barratt furniture sales, brought the total amount given to the Saints Foundation to more than £134,500.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is another organisation which has received vital support. Barratt arranged a charity golf day in October, which raised £15,000 for the charity working across the south coast to saves lives at sea.

Stone Pillow, a homeless charity in Chichester, has also been a recipient of the leading developer’s fundraising help this year. The charity, which supports and empowers homeless and vulnerable people to achieve sustainable independence and wellbeing, has been given £1,000 from the housebuilder.

Barratt haven’t stopped there either. With sustainability high on the agenda for the housebuilder, it donated £11,000 to Mountbatten Hampshire when it heard the Southampton hospice needed to raise funds to make its buildings and facilities more energy efficient.

It also donated £1,000 to sustainability charity, the Final Straw Foundation, and, with the help of Barratt volunteers, worked in partnership with them to carry out a beach clean on Hayling Island over the summer. And, with a donation of tree saplings to local schools, Barratt is showing its true commitment to all things environmentally friendly.

It’s this incredible list of endeavours, which has culminated in the tremendous total of monies raised for charities in Hampshire and beyond.

After what has been a challenging 18 months for charities, Barratt’s support couldn’t have come at a better time.

Greg Baker, Head of Saints Foundation, said: “We are hugely grateful to BDW Southampton for raising such an unbelievable total for our charity.

“Given the vital fundraising opportunities we missed out on during the pandemic, it’s brilliant to see local businesses coming through to support us, so we can continue to support those who need it most.”

Jon Green, Managing Director at Barratt Homes, Southampton Division, said the housebuilder is thrilled to be able to help.

He said: “These charities are doing amazing work for local people and the community, and we just had to step in to show our support.

“The pandemic has hit organisations hard, but they have still been going above and beyond to help in any way they can. It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to raise this sum of monies for all of their efforts.”

As well as funds, Barratt Homes has also been donating its time and furniture to organisations in the local area. The housebuilder has dedicated 1,000 hours of volunteering time to charity and has parted with furniture and white goods that have gone to schools and to those in need.
