Lord Combustion Services win hat-trick of prestigious awards in one night

Commercial heating and ventilation specialists Lord Combustion Services landed three leading business awards in one night in recognition of their high standards over the past 12 months.

The Oldbury-based company scooped two leading awards at the 2021 Black Country Chamber of Commerce Awards, the service business of the year prize along with Emma Tibbetts winning director of the year, as well as the sustainability trophy at the West Midlands Business Masters Awards.

As the company prepares to mark its 40th anniversary, managing director Stuart Smith and the team at Lord Combustion Services were recognised for their achievements during the Covid-19 pandemic and successive lockdowns, as well as the later easing of restrictions.

The awards recognition comes on the back of a year of continued success for Lord, which has grown revenues and profits while increasing staffing levels to nearly 50 employees.

The 2021 Chamber of Commerce Awards celebrated the achievements of the region’s businesses “as they have attempted to reboot, rebuild, and rebound” from the pandemic. Lord were finalists in five categories, taking home two awards when the winners were announced at Wolverhampton Racecourse.

For the service business win, the citation said: “Led by Stuart Smith, the judges felt the company had demonstrated great client focus, innovation and employee attentiveness during the pandemic as they worked tirelessly to maintain and service many key sites such as hospitals and care homes to ensure they could stay open safely during the pandemic.

“The judges were further impressed by Lord’s contribution to the community including their role as STEM ambassadors, work with the Armed Forces Covenant and work to help their customers get to net zero.”

For Emma Tibbetts’s win, the Chamber citation said: “Congratulations to Emma who, during COVID, ensured that Lord went above and beyond to respond to a customer base of schools, care homes, health centres and other key institutions, ensuring that maintenance and service was carried out and not neglected to keep these vital services in operation, especially as a number subsequently opened as vaccination centres.

“Emma kept her teams motivated and introduced new ways to keep them enthused and driven during a period where they supported the work of key workers.”

News website The Business Desk launched the 2021 West Midlands Business Masters Awards to celebrate the companies in the region which have achieved outstanding results over the past 12 months. The winners were announced at the Macdonald Burlington hotel in Birmingham.

Operating since 1982, Lord serves more than 1000 customers each year across the West Midlands, all from their base in Dudley Road East, Oldbury. Lord won the sustainability award for the team’s work in supporting clients ranging from Edgbaston cricket stadium to NHS facilities to reduce their environmental impact.

Managing Director Stuart Smith said triple award wins were pleasing given the efforts made by the team. He said: “Lord has always worked hard to make a positive impact in our region so it is fantastic to have our work recognised by the Black Country Chamber of Commerce and leading news brand Business Desk.

“Emma Tibbetts is a well-respected colleague who creates strong relationships with clients so it is fantastic to see her efforts recognised. We work closely as a team so we are pleased to see our achievements endorsed with the service business award win.

“I’m delighted for every member of the team for their support in winning these awards. As a Black Country-based business with a reach across the West Midlands it means a lot to see our work recognised in the region where we live and work on the back of a strong annual performance in 2021.”
