Gateshead art & design company breaks down the creative process in new six-part video series

As part of Bdaily’s latest feature week, The Business of Creativity, we discuss a local artistic venture that promises to provide insight into the commercial artistic process.

Atomhawk, the multi-award-winning visual design company, has collaborated with ArtStation on a new six-part video series titled “StudioQuest”.

The episodic journey debuted on January 11, and explores the role of a concept artist working in the studio, coinciding with the recent announcement that ArtStation Learning will remain free, providing all creators with unlimited access to high-quality tutorials and lectures.

StudioQuest follows various artists from Atomhawk as they share how game worlds are created from beginning to end, with artists sharing their tips and techniques along the way.

From initial client briefings and collaboration with teammates, through feedback loops and final delivery, the series touches on a wide range of topics at all stages of the visual development pipeline.

Each of the six tutorials will cover a specific part of the concept development process, providing a guide to building a game world with the support and guidance of the Atomhawk Senior Art Team. These tutorials will include moodpieces, character exploration, world building, non-playable character design, vehicle design, and marketing art.

Drew Whitmore, art director at Atomhawk, said: “At Atomhawk we work as a collective creating cutting edge creative concepts and seeing them through to realisation.”

“The StudioQuest series gives artists an insight into how we do this, and provides valuable resources, industry expertise and the opportunity to discover our day-to-day lives as concept artists.”

Tim Wilson, managing director at Atomhawk, added: “StudioQuest will be an invaluable learning tool for artists and we’re proud it is part of ArtStation’s initiative to make its Learning available to all.

“Atomhawk and our parent company, Sumo Group, are committed to ensuring learning resources are accessible to anyone at any level, anywhere and at any time and StudioQuest on ArtStation is a great example of this kind of training.”
