Nature and nurture at Elephant Park as Lendlease helps Nunhead Gardener go from temp to perm

Lendlease has announced that independent community garden brand, The Nunhead Gardener, has signed for a permanent retail space at Elephant Park.

The Nunhead Gardener first arrived at Elephant Park last year, within a kiosk as part of the meanwhile structure on Sayer Street, known as The Living Room. They become the latest brand to move from Lendlease’s accelerator to permanent spaces at Elephant Park, following the likes of vegan Ethiopian restaurant Beza, Caribbean-inspired eatery Tasty Jerk, and bar and bottle shop The Tap In.

Opening a refurbished unit in the Spring, The Nunhead Gardner Elephant Park will offer the brand’s award-winning array of indoor and outdoor plants, as well as its collection of bespoke gardening tools, ceramic pots, and peat-free compost.

The circa 900 sq ft unit, in a prominent location on the corner of Sayer Street and Heygate Street, adds an important lifestyle and community function to the Elephant Park high street offer. It will also feature the brand’s wide array of homeware, including candles, diffusers, beauty products and handmade dining ware, with a team of knowledgeable horticulturalists on hand to offer expert advice.

Guy Thomas, Head of Place Assets at Lendlease, said: “Lendlease has committed to providing spaces for local businesses and start-ups to grow and establish their presence, and The Nunhead Gardener is another success story of this approach. We initially brought the brand into a kiosk in Elephant Park to meet the growing demand from the community for plants, a very important addition given their positive impact on wellbeing. We are proud to have supported the growth of The Nunhead Gardener at Elephant Park, and to see this key community asset add yet another dimension to the destination’s high street.”

Peter Milne, a co-founder of The Nunhead Gardener, added: “With our South London roots, Elephant Park is a great location for our latest store opening. We are delighted to sit alongside such an exciting and diverse array of retailers and restaurants, we are really looking forward to continuing as part of the Elephant Park community.”

News of the signing follows the recent announcement that four new East Asian brands are set to join Elephant Park this year. Wanyoo, YiFang, OISOI and Kokoro will bring further diversity to the Elephant Park lifestyle and F&B offer, shaping it as an all-encompassing retail, leisure, and dining destination.

Nash Bond, CF Commercial, and Shelley Sandzer represent Lendlease.
