Fast growing digital agency Stone’s Throw Media out to build on strongest year on record
A leading video, animation and livestreaming agency is looking forward to a strong 2022 after experiencing its best-ever trading year as it celebrated its first decade in business.
Wolverhampton-based Stone’s Throw Media, whose clients include leading brands such as Redrow, JLR and Wolverhampton Wanderers, not only grew staffing to a team of eight but saw revenues and profits grow to new highs.
The management team attribute the success to the acquisition of several new clients, as well as the agency’s successful diversification into a range of digital services to meet market needs during the recovery from the Covid-19 lockdowns.
Among the new client work to be delivered during 2021 was staff training videos for Greene King, explaining the pub giant’s Premium & Urban venues to colleagues, filmed by Stone’s Throw with actors on location in Birmingham.
The content, the first to be delivered for the leading hospitality brand, explored the “authentic” atmosphere created in the Premium & Urban city and town centre pubs and showed how customers valued the service offered.
Stone’s Throw have also delivered promotional videos for Chilling Screams, “an immersive, thriller mystery experience” which families can play at home. The team produced advertising videos which explain the game and the creator’s aims of appealing to all ages.
The company has also worked with leading Black Country businesses, including Wolverhampton-based leading brownfield remediation and enabling works contractor McAuliffe, for whom the team shot drone footage of their sites to show the progress made.
Stone’s Throw Media was launched in 2011 by founders Mike Chinn and Matt Weston after they met on a University of Wolverhampton media course. The founders bill the business as being for clients “looking to grow” with video, animation and digital events.
Other highlights for 2021 included creating a film on Redrow’s campaign to cut building waste and working with Birmingham Royal Ballet for the first time, as well as creating content for sport governing body British Triathlon, national property maintenance company Novus Property Solutions and manufacturer Adventa. In September, the team broadcast a four-day international conference for the International Association for Hydrogen Safety (IA HySafe) and the Scottish Government.
Matt Weston said: “We are feeling confident for 2022 having grown our team to offer clients a range of expert services and achieving, despite the headwinds being against the UK economy, new highs for revenues and profits. We have secured some prominent new business which we look forward to rolling out in the comings months and will continue to build our reputation in the marketing sector.”
Mike Chinn said: “In 10 years, Stone’s Throw has grown from working with one client to serving 350 to date, while our current customers, many of whom work with the agency for internal messaging, have a combined employee base of 750,000 people. We look forward to growing our business further in the year ahead.”
