BDO launches virtual insight week for Yorkshire students during National Apprenticeship Week
- The Explore BDO Virtual Insight week runs from 1st – 5th August 2022
- The programme is open to year 11 and 12 students who attend a state school and meet the firm’s social mobility criteria based on the job of the main earner in their household.
BDO LLP is launching a summer programme of virtual online events for secondary school and college pupils in Yorkshire during National Apprenticeship Week, as part of its commitment to make accountancy more accessible to students from different backgrounds.
The Explore BDO Virtual Insight Week will run from 1st – 5th August 2022 for students in years 11 and 12 who meet the firm’s social mobility criteria.
The programme will enable youngsters to delve into the sector, learning about accounting careers and why the profession goes far beyond the idea of number crunching. It will provide them with the opportunity to develop their professional and personal skills and meet people from across the firm.
Terry Jones, partner and head of BDO in Yorkshire, said: “Talent is vital to the success of any business and that’s why we want to ensure our virtual insight week reaches as many young people as possible.
“We need to provide a pathway for students outside of our organisation who possess the qualities to be future leaders, regardless of their background or location, and increasing routes into the profession, such as apprenticeships and graduate schemes, has never been more important.”
The programme is open to students who attend a state school and meet BDO’s social mobility criteria based on the job of the main earner in their household. The firm use the Social Mobility Commission guidance to determine which jobs meet the lower socio-economic background criteria.
Jones added: “We believe that a person’s socio-economic background should not determine their career success. As part of our commitment to ensuring access to the world of accountancy, we’re offering students from low socio-economic backgrounds the opportunity to learn more about the accountancy careers available at BDO.”
