Mindfulness and Meditation App, Samten, pledges School support for Children’s Mental Health Week

Mindfulness and Meditation app, Samten, pledged its support to hundreds of schools across th UK as part of Children’s Mental Health Week.

Taking place between 7th – 13th February 2022, Children’s Mental Health Week is focused on shining a spotlight on the importance of mental health for children and young people – recognising that 1 in 6 children have a diagnosable mental health problem.

With 2022’s event committed to the theme of ‘growing together’, Samten has circulated a dedicated resource to 900 schools across the country, which is focused on helping primary school children understand mental health, the importance of supporting one another and the benefits of mindfulness and meditation for combatting negative thoughts and feelings.

Jamie Watkins, Co-Founder of Samten, explained: “With children’s mental health being a key priority for schools across the country, Samten wanted to extend its support through a dedicated and interactive resource that schools can easily use in the classroom to help children understand the importance of mental health, together with simple guidance on how to meditate and practice mindfulness.

By meditating for just five to 10 minutes a day, children can reduce stress, increase compassion, improve focus, enhance quality of sleep, and become more aware. In understanding these key benefits, the Samten team and I are committed to ensuring meditation becomes part of the wider curriculum and daily school life, with Children’s Mental Health Week a great place to start.“

Samten’s pledge to Schools comes just several months after it unveiled its free ‘Samten Junior’ version of the app, which delivers easy to follow, traditional and authentic meditation techniques guided by co-founder and expert Buddhist monk, Gelong Thubten, which can be practiced at school and at home.

The benefits of Samten’s authentic and easy-to-follow approach have recently been experienced by Georgetown Primary School, Tredegar, Wales – where children in Year 5 experienced meditation for the first time.

Mrs Powell, Year 5 Teacher at Georgetown Primary School, confirmed: “It was great to see sessions that were easy for the children to follow. They stayed engaged and all said they felt relaxed and happy afterwards.”

Available to download from Google Play and the Apple App store, Samten brings mindfulness, meditation, and wellbeing into everyday life through smart devices and web applications, with a mission to help change the world “one breath at a time”.
