Nant employee has sights set on success following apprenticeship

Ahead of National Apprenticeship Week, a shining star at Nant Limited has called on other young people to consider taking on an apprenticeship in the water treatment industry.

Ethan Norris, 20 from Coseley has success firmly in his sights after completing a Business Administration Apprenticeship.

Ethan began his career in 2019 as Help Desk Administrator after completing the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 2 and 3 at Dudley College. After completing his apprenticeship he was quickly promoted to Help Desk Team Leader, a position he says is due to the support and guidance he received from the team at Nant during his apprenticeship.

“I am now responsible for running monthly client meetings, on my own, where I have to discuss any issues or needs with the customer. This was really daunting at first but the real life business experience I have gained, coupled with the skills learned through the apprenticeship has been invaluable.

“In the future I’d like to move into an office management role in the business. The great thing about Nant is that I’m already working with the management team to ensure I have the correct skills and training to get me there.

“For anyone considering an apprenticeship with Nant I would say go for it. They are a caring employer who put staff development and welfare at its core. I have had so much support during my time here and the business really values the skills and perspective apprentices bring.”

Ethan’s Line Manager Gary Baker said: “Ethan is a great role model for current and future apprentices in the business. He is always on hand to offer support and ensure they keep on track.

“Ethan is now involved in a number of high profile projects within the business, outside of his day to day role which highlights how far he has come in two years.” The theme of “Build the Future” continues for the second National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), which will take place between 7 and 13 February 2022.

The 15th annual week-long celebration will take place across England, encouraging individuals of any age to reach their career goals by building their skills and knowledge through an apprenticeship.

Since 2020 Nant has recruited, trained and developed five apprentices via its Apprenticeship Programme despite the challenges of lockdown and the global pandemic. Tyler Sullivan, Darius Hayes, Sophie Evans and Mya Gordon have all joined Nant as Apprentice Help Desk Administrators whilst completing their Level 2 Business Administration Apprenticeship. In addition the company have had success with a range of apprenticeships, not just school and college leavers, with Georgie Newport embarking on a management apprenticeship which has seen her progress from Helpdesk Supervisor to Scheduling and Communications Manager.

Nant Managing Director Carl Baker commented: “Since Nant began life in 1994 the company has a rich heritage for developing apprentices and young talent.

“Apprentices play a vital role in our growth strategy for the future. We are committed to developing talented people and Ethan is a fantastic example of how we are building a workforce for the future.”

In 2021 Nant’s apprenticeship programme was recognised at the In-Comm Training Awards in the category of Small Business of the Year. The awards celebrate and reward young apprentices and adult learners.
