10 non-league football clubs score in £100K Buildbase bursary

Builders’ merchant Buildbase has awarded £10,000 worth of building materials to 10 clubs taking part in the Buildbase FA Trophy and Vase competitions.

Following their application to the Buildbase Non-league Club Renovation programme, Mossley AFC, Tiverton Town AFC, Tooting and Mitcham United, Prescot Cables FC, Bishops Stortford FC, Fleet Spurs, Sandbach United, Harrowby United and Amersham Town will each be awarded building materials to renovate their facilities.

Judges from Buildbase and the FA chose the nine winners. Their decision was based on the projects they deemed would deliver the greatest benefits to the club and their local communities.

The tenth prize went to London Lions, which scored the most public votes and automatically secured the club a winning ‘golden ticket’.

Mossley AFC will use the bursary to build a toilet block for use by fans on matchdays and for community events.

Tiverton Town AFC will revamp its kitchen to provide hot and cold refreshments on matchdays for local community groups and commercial events.

Tooting and Mitcham United FC plans to build additional changing rooms, which will enable more teams to play including girls and disability football.

Prescot Cables FC will renovate its changing rooms to make it more accessible to female players and officials.

Bishops Stortford Football Club will use the bursary to give its 20-year-old toilet block a complete makeover.

Fleet Spurs FC plans to add a women’s toilet and upgrade facilities for disabled people, making the club more accessible to all.

Sandbach United FC will extend its kitchen and hopes to offer more variety and healthier eating options to everyone who visits.

Harrowby United FC plans to refurbish its kitchen to provide more healthy food options to players and fans as well enable use for community groups.

Amersham Town FC will renew and extend its 50-year-old kitchen to complement the recently refurbished clubhouse.

London Lions plans to renovate its changing rooms to accommodate more teams.

Local Buildbase branches will be supporting the clubs with information, advice and supplying the building products required for their projects.

Martin Bull is Buildbase Procurement Director and was part of the judging panel. He said: “We had a huge response to our renovation competition this year. The winning clubs did a fantastic job of explaining how the bursary would be used and the effects of that on the wider community as well as on their ability to run as a business. Among the stories of turning around dilapidated facilities we’ve heard a lot of clubs focused on being more inclusive, which is encouraging to hear. We look forward to seeing how these projects play out over the coming months.”

Buildbase has been running a programme to transform the facilities of clubs taking part in the Buildbase FA Trophy and Vase competitions since it became the title sponsor of the FA Trophy and Vase in 2016.
