BrewDog's copy-can goes viral
More than 28,000 readers on Linkedin and hundreds of professionals, many in retail and the F&B trade reacted this week to news that beer maker BrewDog seems to have copied craft soft drinks brand Soda Folk’s logo design and branding.
In response, Soda Folk and its UK MD, Simon Waterfall had a playful pop at BrewDog’s conscious - or even unconscious - imitation game in a post on LinkedIn which subsequently went viral.
It’s not the first time BrewDog has been shown to copy other brands. In early 2019 it had a public spat with branding agency Manifest over using the firm’s designs without paying for them, while later that year it was accused of using fake job interviews to get free branding and marketing ideas.
Rather than get lawyers involved over the copy can, Soda Folk has taken a more fun way to resolve the dispute. Its full flavoured social media post pokes fun at both BrewDog and its founder’s flat cap on Linkedin.
