Darlington students are treated to storytelling workshops on World Book Day thanks to leading housebuilder
A professional storyteller has brought the world of reading to life for Darlington students on World Book Day, with the help of local housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East.
The five-star housebuilder organised for local writer and storyteller, Elizabeth Baker, to visit the children at West Park Academy, close to its Darlington development The Orchard at West Park. The fun-filled activity saw the primary school pupils activate their imaginations during interactive storytelling workshops to mark the day that celebrates books and encourages a love for reading.
The local housebuilder has also run a competition with the pupils, who have been challenged to design a dream home for their favourite book character. The creators of the top three designs will each be awarded with book vouchers worth £20.
Jenna Ford, Deputy Principal said: “We were so excited to have a storyteller visit our school on World Book Day. The children really enjoyed Elizabeth’s creative and interactive stories and it was a wonderful activity that helped bring stories to life. It’s important that our children learn to enjoy reading and we’re grateful to Barratt for arranging this activity.”
Barratt Developments North East, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, regularly supports the communities in which it builds and donates monthly to organisations that improve the quality of life for those living close to the homebuilder’s developments.
Carl Sobolewski, Managing Director at Barratt Developments North East added: “We’re always looking at ways we can support our communities so we’re extremely pleased to have been able to help a school close to one of our developments with its World Book Day activities this year. In hiring a local storyteller to go into the school, we hope the children had a great day exploring the world of literature.”
