Burrow Seven Racing Club plants a tree for each new member thanks to partnership with Manchester’s Play it Green

The Burrow Seven Racing Club, which already makes an outstanding social impact for those affected by Motor Neuron Disease (MND), has partnered with Manchester-based Play It Green to ensure it makes a positive environmental impact by planting a tree for each new member and being supported in its journey to Net-Zero.

The racing club provides unique member privileges around the racehorse Burrow Seven, all while raising vital funds in the fight against Motor Neuron Disease. Having passed on one hundred thousand pounds to charity last year, the Burrow Seven Racing Club has now teamed up with award-winning sustainability company Play it Green to help leave a greater legacy for the planet.  

The horse is named after Rob Burrow MBE, who wore the number seven jersey in an illustrious rugby playing career. Before retiring less than five years ago, this saw him capped for England and win eight league titles and five cups for his beloved Leeds Rhinos. In late 2019, Rob Burrow was sadly diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease.

Phil Hawthorne, Founder of Racing4Business and brainchild behind Burrow Seven, said, “The idea for this fundraising campaign was borne by my love of rugby league and passion for horseracing. Like so many of you, I have been really inspired by Rob’s battle with MND, and I wanted to create a covid-friendly way to honour Rob’s legacy on the pitch and his heroism in his battle with MND.

“We’re delighted to have partnered with Play It Green to ensure we leave an even greater legacy for future generations, and I encourage you all to become a member of the Burrow Seven Racing Club.”

Chris Thair, Co-founder of Play it Green, who previously spent two decades working in rugby league, said, “We aim to help build a bigger and better community of people and businesses to be part of this wonderful club and raise more funds in the fight against MND.

“With a tree being planted for every new member and support to help the club reach net zero, we provide more stories to tell and marketing content that can be shared and take the club to new audiences.

“I’ve known the brand ambassador Barrie McDermott for many years, a person full of integrity and giving. We share the same values, and it is important we do what we can to support this wonderful cause.”

Play it Green allows businesses to make an immediate environmental and social impact whilst being supported in their journey to net-zero through their three-step solution to climate change, Reduce, Repair, Regive, and offerings such as creating a climate positive workforce.

All profits from the club this year will be split equally between MNDA and the Leeds Hospital Charities at the request of the Rob Burrow family.

Members of the club receive regular updates about the horse and the charities and also become part of the community following the horse, sharing experiences and stories. Prize draws and an open day provides members with the opportunity to visit the training stables and be part of the owner’s enclosure on race days.

Annual membership costs just fifty-nine pounds through its dedicated website and allows you to support the legacy of Rob Burrow, the fight against MND, and become part of a racehorse that was sired by Royal Ascot Gold Cup winner Kayf Tara.
