London housebuilder to deliver 167 new homes in “vibrant” Barking Riverside project

Bellway London Partnerships, in partnership with Barking Riverside Limited, has been granted planning approval to build 167 new homes on the latest phase of the Barking Riverside project, East London.

Barking Riverside Limited, a Joint Venture between L&Q and the GLA, is delivering in excess of 10,000 new homes adjacent to the River Thames alongside significant transport and infrastructure improvements. Work is due to start soon on the new homes in Site H West, as part of the wider scheme of new homes on the former Barking Power Station site.

Plans for the new development were approved by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s Planning Committee on February 14. The scheme is set to deliver 167 new homes; a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments and houses, at the site to the south of Crossness Road and west of Handley Page Road.

There will be 87 homes for private sale and 80 affordable properties which will be acquired by L&Q.

Construction of Site H West is due to commence shortly and will run alongside Bellway London Partnerships’ current development of 772 new homes at Fielders Quarter, Barking Riverside.

Bill Kenneally, regional director of Bellway London Partnerships, said: “This is part of a hugely ambitious and forward-looking project which is believed to be the largest scheme of its kind in Europe. At Bellway we are very proud to be playing a major role in the delivery of a plan that will bring more than 10,000 new homes to this part of London.

The 124 apartments in Site H West are to be built within five apartment buildings, alongside 43 houses. Ten per cent of the homes will be wheelchair accessible, while the remaining homes will be wheelchair adaptable. There will be 95 car parking spaces and more than 300 cycle spaces provided.

Bill continued: “Approval for the plans at Site H West comes a matter of weeks after the council gave planning permission for 107 new homes at Site H East. This latest approval means that these two new phases will see Bellway London Partnerships deliver a further 274 new homes within Barking Riverside.

“As ever, the aim of Bellway is not only to build top-quality new homes for people to live in but to create vibrant new neighbourhoods that complement and enhance the local area. These two developments will do just that.”
