Double chartered accountant celebration for Burgis & Bullock
A regional accountancy firm is celebrating after two of its former trainees achieved chartered accountant status.
Laura Harford and James Anstey both joined the firm with no accountancy experience and have now taken up senior positions at Burgis & Bullock after passing their ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) exams.
The pair have both been with the business for more than seven years and the firm - which has offices in Leamington, Nuneaton, Rugby and Stratford-upon-Avon - has supported them through their AAT and ACCA exams.
Burgis & Bullock currently employs 18 trainees, all studying towards either AAT, ACA, or ACCA qualifications.
Laura, from Rugby, is now Audit Senior based in the Leamington Spa office. She joined the firm at 19 after completing her A-Levels.
She said: “It’s been a long road with a lot of exams across AAT and ACCA, but it feels great to finally be qualified. I’ve worked in audit throughout and have specialised in businesses in manufacturing and engineering – which is something I’ve really enjoyed.
“The on-the-job training by the firm has been amazing and helped me to get to this point. I’ve been able to learn directly from experts in their fields and everyone has been very supportive
“When I joined the firm I was a complete novice and I’m hoping that I can use that experience to help support the development of junior members of the team at Burgis & Bullock.”
James, from Leamington, is also based in the Leamington office and joined the firm in 2014 at the age of 26 – after choosing to change career into accountancy. He has now been promoted to Audit Senior.
He said: “I was working for a market research company and had already had my first child, but I decided to make an investment in myself, start at the bottom and begin a career in accountancy with Burgis & Bullock.
“The structure of training has been very good and, while there is always pressure you put on yourself to pass, I have been able to complete the exams at my own pace. “There was certainly a learning curve when I first joined and it was a lot of information to take in quickly. But you soon get used to it and continue pushing your own boundaries to progress.”
Kate King, Partner at Burgis & Bullock, added: “We’re proud of our track record of developing junior members of staff. We are all delighted for James and Laura, they have made great strides professionally since joining us and are well deserving of chartered accountant status.
“After joining us with no prior experience, James and Laura are now operating key roles in our audit team and corporate services team. “Burgis & Bullock remains committed to developing our staff and ensuring they have the time, space and opportunities to grow.”
