Buildbase conference goes greener

Buildbase has pledged to take a more sustainable approach to its annual conference as hundreds of employees gear up to attend the merchant’s first face-to-face event since the start of the pandemic.

As part of the merchant’s commitment to building a more sustainable future, conference materials will be digital this year with the Buildbase Conference App for 2022.

The bespoke app will replace the thousands of sheets of paper normally used for agendas, brochures, maps, exhibitor and speaker information as well as details about dinner events and seating arrangements.

The Buildbase Conference App for 2022 is compatible with Android and Apple mobile devices, enabling attendees to see what’s on, where they need to be and provide feedback to sessions.

This year’s conference takes place on 6th and 7th April and will focus on the acquisition of Buildbase into the Huws Gray Group.

All Buildbase employees are due to attend along with 80 preferred suppliers who will exhibit products and showcase new releases. A digital scavenger hunt using QR codes will encourage engagement.

Nigel Sharper, Senior Category Planning Manager at Buildbase, has been leading the app’s development. He explained:

“We have stepped up our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our annual conference this year. The intention is to become paperless and remove unnecessary waste. Everyone has a mobile phone so it made sense to move everything that would normally be paper based to a digital solution.”

Other sustainable initiatives that Buildbase has planned for this year include expanding its eco product range, identifying which commercial vehicles can be switched to electric and ensuring documented stewardship plans are in place for all aggregate suppliers extraction sites.

Among its longer-term targets, Buildbase is working towards achieving 95% waste to landfill diversion and a 25% reduction of Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2025 as well as ensuring that all timber products are PEFC or FSC compliant by 2026.
