This week's national appointments

This week’s round up of national appointments includes Karbon Homes, NorthEdge and the Grand Hotel Birmingham. Read on to find out more.

Ian Johnson, Karbon Homes

Northern housing association Karbon Homes has announced the appointment of Ian Johnson as its new executive director of customer services. Ian is currently the director of pre-tenancy and property services at Karbon Homes and will be replacing Jo Ray who will be retiring following five successful years in the role.

Ian has a wealth of experience following a career in housing spanning 25 years. His CV includes senior positions at Blyth Valley Housing, Homes for Northumberland and was the CEO of Tyne Housing before joining Karbon Homes.

Ian also holds various non-executive roles as chair of Prosper and chair of the North East Property Directors Forum, as well as being a member of the CIH Policy Advisory Committee.

Ian commented: “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge within Karbon and using my experience to continue the positive work Jo has already achieved. I hope to play a key role in helping deliver our mission of providing customers with a strong foundation for life.”

Lucie Mills and Phil Frame, NorthEdge

Lower-mid market private equity firm, NorthEdge, has made a raft of promotions and appointments across its Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham offices, including the appointment of two new partners, Lucie Mills (pictured left) and Phil Frame (pictured right).

In Manchester, Lucie Mills has been “instrumental” in driving NorthEdge’s value creation approach and embedding it across the portfolio since joining the business in 2019 as head of business transformation.

She will continue to work closely with portfolio management teams in her new role as partner to deliver on their value creation plans, as well as build on NorthEdge’s ESG credentials, which recently saw the firm achieve top performer status in the ESG Transparency Index and get shortlisted in the D&I Leader of the Year category at The Private Equity Awards.

Phil has been part of the NorthEdge team for over ten years. He has been responsible for a range of deals across the North West and currently sits on the boards of portfolio businesses Helios and Meet. In his new role, he will continue to take responsibility for generating new investment opportunities for the firm, alongside leading deals across the region.

Charlotte Horler, the Grand Hotel Birmingham

The Grand Hotel Birmingham has announced the appointment of its new deputy general manager, Charlotte Horler. Charlotte joins the Grand Hotel after a three-year stint as deputy general manager at New Hall Hotel & Spa. Charlotte has over 15 years’ experience in the hospitality sector and has served in numerous senior management roles.

Charlotte’s career in hospitality began at the age of 15 at Walton Hall & Walton Hotel. Following a stint in the kitchen, Charlotte began her experience at the front of house. She then progressed to food & beverage supervisor, front office receptionist and front of house manager, before a role at Billesley Manor as operations manager.

A move to London followed as Charlotte was appointed as front of house manager at the Montague on the Gardens Hotel in Bloomsbury.

From 2018, Charlotte served as deputy general manager at New Hall Hotel & Spa where she was directly responsible for hotel operations with a particular focus on Front of House and Food and Beverage, managing 78 employees across teams.

Charlotte said: “I’m truly honoured to join the Grand Hotel Birmingham. To be working at such an iconic hotel with a talented team during an important year is a career highlight. Our aim is to be Birmingham’s favourite hotel and I’m very excited to lead the team operationally to cement this whilst ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional experiences and create special memories for our guests.”

Peter Kienast, general manager at the Grand Hotel Birmingham, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Charlotte to The Grand Hotel Birmingham team. She brings a wealth of experience to the role as well as tangible passion for customer service. I’m proud to call her my Deputy General Manager as we head into a really important year for the hotel, and the city, as we prepare to welcome the Commonwealth Games.”
