77% of Large Enterprises in the UK Regard Data and AI as ‘Essential’ for Daily Work

  • A new Dataiku study on the impact of data and AI across EMEA demonstrates a big opportunity to make Everyday AI the norm for all employees*

LONDON, April 27th, 2022 - Dataiku, the platform for Everyday AI, today published the results of its latest study conducted with global public opinion and data company YouGov. The study presents the results of over 2,500 workers with jobs that involve handling or using information and was run across France, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and the UAE to gauge the use and democratisation of data and AI.

At the company level, the survey found that more than three-quarters of large UK enterprises regard data and AI as ‘essential’ to daily work, with 69% revealing that they use more data now than five years ago.

At the sector level, 42% of UK knowledge workers at large enterprises feel their specific industries are significantly impacted by data and AI. Thirty-six per cent of knowledge workers feel their companies are directly impacted by data and AI, while only 31% of UK workers at large enterprises say that their actual role is impacted by data and AI.

The disparity in numbers between feedback at the sector, company and employee level highlights a significant opportunity to make Everyday AI more of a reality at the human level, where each and every employee can feel the impact of data and AI in their role.

The results come at a time when the UK is looking to achieve global AI superpower status as it works to create and grow a stronger nationwide AI and data environment. In September 2021, the UK Government recently announced its first-ever National AI Strategy – a 10-year plan aimed at staking a place for the country among the world’s AI superpowers. The strategy states, “Artificial Intelligence technologies (AI) offer the potential to transform the UK’s economic landscape and improve people’s lives across the country, transforming industries and delivering first-class public services.” However, this will only be possible if employees across the board have equal access to data and AI, and input into the benefits they may generate.

“Much of today’s current reading often focuses on how industries will be transformed by data and AI, while too often forgetting the details of what it takes for transformation at the employee level,” said Gregory Herbert, Senior Vice President & General Manager, EMEA. “For an in-depth transformation of an industry, a data strategy must first be put in place focused on making Everyday AI a reality for each individual employee. At Dataiku, this is our mission. Humans are an essential link in AI. Dataiku’s teams work alongside internal teams to enable everyone to grasp AI and identify it as a real asset for their position. At the end of the day, without humans, it’s only data with limited benefit.”
