This week’s round up of national appointments includes Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club, Womble Bond Dickinson and Howard Ward Associates. Read on to find out more.

Mike Turner and Pete Geddes, Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club

Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club is pleased to announce Mike Turner and Pete Geddes of Open Clubhouse as chief executives of the Club, both of whom have “vast experience” of working in professional sport.

Open Clubhouse was engaged by Birmingham Moseley in September 2021 to provide a professional approach to the Club’s sales and marketing strategy. The board had a clear vision for the future of the Club and Open Clubhouse were seen as the “best people” to deliver on these objectives.

Open Clubhouse’s Pete Geddes said: “We are excited to become even more embedded into the fabric of this fantastic Club, especially at this time as the Club approaches its 150th year.

“Open Clubhouse plans to be with Birmingham Moseley for many years and work with everyone associated with the Club to build on the great work that has already been done and ensure that the Club is here for at least another 150 years.”

Chairman of Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club, David Warren, said: “The Board are looking forward to working with Mike and Pete in their role as Chief Executives of the Club. We are confident that with their support we will continue on our journey to becoming one of the leading rugby clubs in the country once again.”

Phillip Fleetham, Samuel Knight International

Global manpower provider, Samuel Knight International has announced the appointment of Phillip Fleetham as business development director. He joins with over 20 years’ experience in the energy sector and will head up the newly created Global Projects division, which will support the planning, construction and operation of onshore and offshore wind farms.

Steven Rawlingson, CEO and founder, said: “We can now announce that Samuel Knight Projects will offer a full project management solution working with the global community to help build, construct, install and maintain supporting developers, utilities and OEMs.

“This will be led by Phillip Fleetham, whose arrival is a real coup for the business as he is armed with tremendous experience to take this service offering forward.

Phillip added: “I have watched the growth of Samuel Knight in recent years and have been impressed with its strong reputation.

“I have known Steve for a number of years and was initially approached to work within the company some time ago, but like everything in life, timing is key. Now felt the right time to step in and help drive forward Samuel Knight Projects.

“We have seen a real interest in our project solutions business model and believe the timing is right to develop and strengthen this offering. I want to leave a legacy and really help develop and grow the business. We want to see organic, steady growth with the ambition to be known as one of the leading service providers to the renewables market.”

Stephen Hands, Womble Bond Dickinson

Law firm Womble Bond Dickinson has appointed Stephen Hands as senior counsel. Stephen joins the firm’s commercial team, bringing with him more than 25 years of legal and energy and industrial sector expertise.

Beginning his career in 1990, Stephen has worked for a wide range of businesses including Rolls Royce and Enron Europe. Most recently, he was head of legal & compliance at SembCorp.

Stephen brings with him a unique blend of experience in relation to developing and running industrial sites and capital projects associated with the generation, purchase and supply of power and utilities and providing site services.

Stephen commented: “It is a pleasure to join the team at Womble Bond Dickinson. I look forward to drawing on my experience in both the legal and energy sectors to further bolster the firm’s commercial offering and support its clients to enhance their sustainability strategies.”

Stephen will work closely with Peter Snaith, WBD partner and fellow Teesside industry expert, who also spent time in the region in his early career, working at ICI and latterly INEOS. Between them, the two have 50 years of combined experience of working across Teesside’s industrial sectors.

Peter added: “I am delighted to welcome Stephen to the WBD team. I know that Stephen will fit in very well working with our commercial and construction teams, energy regulatory team and other specialists. Stephen will be uniquely placed to support our clients as they look to decarbonise and tackle the energy transition.

Aaron Ross, Howard Ward Associates

Nottingham based engineering consultancy, Howard Ward Associates (HWA), has appointed Arron Ross as structural engineer to join its expanding firm. With nearly six years’ experience within the construction industry, Arron has joined HWA to assist with the technical delivery of a growing workload.

A graduate of the University of Brighton with a BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering degree and has expertise in steelwork design, testing and structural product development, Arron is “keen to progress in his new role” by developing his skills and knowledge in both design and project management and with support working towards attaining chartership status.

Arron said: “Joining the HWA team felt like the ideal career move for me as the company culture aligns with my values and the team works on a vast array of projects across multiple sectors. I’m very keen to bring a great work ethic and eagerness to my role as I expand my knowledge and experience and take on new challenges.

“It is evident to me that HWA treats its staff as its greatest asset. Everyone works together as a close-knit team and I’m looking forward to progressing with the company.”
