Morgan Sindall Construction supports Wakefield's Sandal Library with buggy donation

Morgan Sindall Construction has donated a buggy shelter to the Sandal library in Wakefield as part of the outreach work undertaken through its delivery of refurbishment of the CAPA College within the city.

The shelter has been donated in collaboration with Friends of Sandal library, a voluntary community group that undertakes a variety of initiatives that will improve the experience of people who use the library. The shelter is part of a wider set of renovations that will help to encourage people of all ages to visit and interact with the facilities and services offered by the library.

This work was facilitated through the help of Mark Scott, chair and director of Yorkshire Builders Federation and Sandal resident, who found out about the requirement for a buggy shelter and connected the library group with Sarah Muscas, Morgan Sindall Construction’s social value manager.

This donation and construction of the buggy shelter was undertaken by members of the team delivering improvement works to CAPA college. These works will enhance the creative and performing arts college’s state of the art facilities for students aged 16-19, and is set to be completed in the summer of 2022.

Mary Beaumont, part of the Friends of Sandal Library group, said: “We are very grateful for Morgan Sindall Construction’s support as we continue to transform Sandal library into a vibrant and thriving hub for the community. The new shelter is a great asset for the library as the indoor space is quite small, so to have a sheltered area with extra space outside is a massive step for us, and will be particularly helpful for the parents and carers who come to our Mothers and Children events.”

Sandal Library first underwent renovation in 2017, in order to make the facilities more accessible for those with dementia. Since then, a big focus for the project has been creating a garden around the library for visitors to enjoy. The group have also helped secure the library a summer house and have had artificial grass laid for children to play on, as well as a bench to sit on.

Speaking about the work being done at Sandal Library, Sarah said: “What the Friends of Sandal Library group have already achieved here is inspiring and shows the power of local community when everyone comes together. Our Morgan Construction team was delighted to support such a worthy cause through the CAPA project and we look forward to seeing the progression of the library’s next steps.”
